Jazz Orchestra Composer Series Presents: Bryn Van Vliet

The second act in our line up of concerts is Bryn van Vliet, a multi-disciplinary artist known for his dynamic career as an instrumentalist (saxophone, woodwinds, vocals), performer, composer, arranger, and educator. As a founding member of TOI and former lead alto saxophonist for the Rodger Fox Big Band, he has earned a reputation as a versatile and sought-after musician.

The Brynzilian Big Band presents fresh, vibrant compositions inspired by iconic Brazilian music styles such as Samba, Bossa Nova, and Forró. Bryn’s writing reflects his deep affection for Brazilian music, while honoring its traditional roots and spirit. Featuring 17 of Wellington’s finest musicians, the Brynzilian Big Band promises a performance that will make you dance, laugh, shout, cry — and maybe even hug your neighbour.

The Jazz Orchestra Composer Series showcases original music for large jazz ensemble by New Zealand composers. Concerts take place every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, from May to October, from 7pm. Tickets are $15, door sales $20.
