Jazz Orchestra Composer Series Presents: Seth Boy

"Ang hindi lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan."

The fifth installment in our series of Aotearoa jazz orchestra composers is the incomparable Seth Boy. Seth is a renowned Wellington bass player, big band leader, and was the commissioned composer for the 2022 Wellington Jazz Festival.

In a brand-new programme of music written for eleven musicians, Seth Boy revisits fundamental scenes from the last 150 years of Filipino resistance and revolution. These compositions and arrangements will embody solidarity, courage, and the Power of the People, examining the significance of and reiterating lessons from the pre-colonial eras, various occupations, and through to the modern day.

This jazz orchestra's music draws inspiration from various artistic traditions of the Philippines played by a ten-piece ensemble and featured vocalist Shenazzar Sta Lucia, paying respects to the sacrifice and hard work of those who came before.

The Jazz Orchestra Composer Series showcases original music for large jazz ensemble by New Zealand composers. Concerts take place every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month, from May to October, from 7pm. Tickets are $15, door sales $20.
