Event description

Co-presented with The Low Pass

Jeff Carey:

Jeff Carey is an electronic music composer, performer and curator from Anne Arundel County, Maryland. His music is abstract and sculptural, full of shapes and gesture, colored by noise bursts, percussive glitches and shifting resonance. In performance he incorporates lighting and laser projection to explore the space between visceral and external embodiment of sound. He builds physically controllable custom software synthesis instruments and is interested in exploring immediate and flexible sound production with virtuosity. He collaborates with acoustic musicians, dancers and visual artists to create multidisciplinary performances, multi-performer instrumental systems, installation art works and in improvisational settings.

Kristina Warren:

Kristina Warren is a versatile and imaginative sound artist, composer, and performer based on Narragansett land, also known as Providence, Rhode Island [US]. Warren’s performances range from synth voyages and digital soundscapes to concertina meditations and beyond; Warren also presents installations, workshops, lectures, and more. All this work aims in various ways to highlight the ebbs and flows of individual and collective listening attention. Praised as "beautifully organic" (Peter Bruyn, Haarlems Dagblad) and having "a finesse of timbral traces" (Frédéric Cardin, PanM360), work by Warren has been presented internationally at venues including TIK [DE], WORM [NL], The Bluecoat [UK], Infuse [FR], Espacios Sonoros [AR], IOIC [CH], Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago, US), Rhizome (DC, US), and the MIT Spatial Sound Lab (Cambridge, US).

Matt O'Hare:

Matt O'Hare, Ph.D. is an interdisciplinary artist, educator, and event organizer whose research and creative practice focus on human-computer interaction, creativity, and critical making with audio-visual technologies. With a background in electronic music and the performing arts, his work foregrounds the development of interactive systems to support improvisation, collaboration, and meaningful exchange among artists and electronic performance environments.

In the city of Philadelphia, he has been responsible for the organization of numerous art events including the ongoing Sound Studio experimental music series from The Low Pass, collaborations with Fire Museum Presents, and free and donation-based electronic art workshops with Iffy Books. From 2021-2024 Matt served as the director of the Studio for Electronic Art at Haverford College, which pioneered the use of modular synthesizers as an educational tool for computational literacy. As an electronic musician and video artist, Matt has performed and exhibited work internationally. His musical scores and writings have been published by MIT Press and Johns Hopkins University Press. As a vocalist, he recently appeared on the Zillas on Acid Mars Hum EP released by NEUBEU Music. He has self-released several albums available at mattohare.com.
