Jessie Monk Quartet @ Greenhouse Studios w/ SAMSCOUT Support
Event description
For their first performance on Gadigal country - Naarm/Berlin artist Jessie Monk is joined by Naarm based quartet to celebrate the release of her most recent A+B single, A Constellation of Voices + O' My Love. The double release adds to the mosaic of ecosystems that will eventually make up the experimental folk artist's forthcoming sophomore LP - Mis O' The Mountains - a concept album based on the myth of Mis - a celtic goddess.
After two sell out Naarm shows - the quartet is humbled to bring Mis' story - an interactive, deep and spiritually poignant journey through grief, metamorphosis, catharsis and belonging - to Gadigal lands. Join them for an evening of mythical story telling and music as we journey through this archetypal feminine story in a fusion of experimental folk, jazz and celtic music, hearkening the wild, ancient and ancestral soul to take root in these modern times, and cleaving open a space for being together as a community in our individual and collective grief, following ancient maps through it's dark waters.
For lovers of Lisa O'niel, Sam Amidon, Joni Mitchell, Anna Mieke or Lankum - as well as poets Rilke, Ovid or Rumi.
The evening will be an ancient braiding of music, yarrning and quiet - as Jessie and band walk us through the story of Mis in song and sonnet.
We are so excited to bring this story to Greenhouse' extended community and look forward to introducing you to this goddess - and we hope that you may leave with her as a companion and an uncovered ancestor.

Jessie Monk:
Jessie Monk is an avant-folk musician out of GunaiKurnai land, Australia, now based between Berlin and Naarm. She weaves new stories with old threads, inspired by the Celtic and Appalachian folk traditions and more experimental mediums such as new-music and Butoh. Often accompanied by a renegade ensemble in Fabiana Striffler, Max Andrzejewski, Paul Santner and Conor Cunningham, Jessie Monk and Band create an atmosphere of tangible and, at the same time, experimental folklore and thoughtfulness, enchanting audiences with their mythical and eruptive playing style. Her sound is reminiscent of Joni Mitchell, Sam Amidon or Anna Mieke while her lyrics are inspired by the likes of Rilke and Ovid. Also an actress and a dancer, Jessie has played in major musicals including the Australian Premier of David Bowie’s, Lazarus and is currently performing in the Australian tour of Anais Mitchell's, Hadestown. In 2023, she released her debut, ‘Boundless Folk LP’ - Rolling Stone Magazine, Continually Becoming, and is in the midst of releasing her sophomore album - Mis O’ The Mountains - a concept album based on the myth of the ancient celtic goddess named Mis.
