Event description

Cantor Assaf Levitin is joined by pianist Naaman Wagner for an evening of deeply moving and timeless music. This concert journeys through the rich tapestry of Jewish musical heritage, shaped by the Hellenic world, ancient mythology, and the enduring symbolism of the sea as a vessel of connection, exile, and return.

The programme interweaves stories of displacement, memory, and belonging, linking ancient voices with modern echoes across the shifting tides of time and culture. Alberto Hemsi’s Coplas Sefardies evoke the Judeo-Spanish heritage of Thessaloniki and Crete. Works by Fauré, Schubert, Barber, and Ireland delve into the mythic and emotional depths of the sea, conjuring themes of burden, illusion, and yearning. Contemporary songs by Yehuda Poliker and Corinne Alal explore memory, migration, and post-Holocaust identity with raw emotional power.

From haunting Sephardic ballads to rock music, this concert offers a heartfelt musical tribute to the enduring Jewish presence in the Hellenic world.
