Event description

Ever wanted to wield your violin bow like a gardening tool for the soul? Welcome to Jim’s Bowing, a hands-on, high-joy workshop where the lawn is your fingerboard and the weeds are your inhibitions.

After years of sonic exploration and extended technique development and application, Charlie McCarthy returns with this freshly trimmed session on extended violin techniques—open to fiddlers, violinists, violists, cellists and curious bowed string adventurers.

Learn how to:

  • Strike like a col legno ninja

  • Growl out subterranean subharmonics

  • Slide, shimmer, pulse, and echo with effects that push the violin into uncharted sonic terrain

  • Unleash the “sad cat,” “turbobow,” “bariolage engine,” and other secret tools from Charlie’s shed of sonic oddities

Bring your own instrument. No weed whackers required. Just a bow, an open mind, and the will to make noise.

Stick around after the workshop to see all these techniques in real-world application at the Djangos Tiger show: get tickets here: https://events.humanitix.com/django-s-tiger-trio-soho-arts-series?hxchl=hex-pfl
