Please join HB Studio as we gather to celebrate the life and legacy of Jim Boerlin (March 28, 1940 - June 20, 2026), beloved actor, director, teacher, mentor, and longtime member of the HB community.
For more than six decades, Jim devoted his life to the theater and to the artists around him. HB Studio was his lifelong artistic home, where he studied with Herbert Berghof and Uta Hagen, taught generations of actors, served as co-chair of the HB Studio Artistic Council, and played an instrumental role in the creation of the Hagen Institute. From 2010 until his passing, he served as the Institute’s program administrator, mentoring countless students with warmth, rigor, and an unwavering commitment to the craft.
We invite Jim’s family, friends, students, colleagues, and the wider HB community to come together to remember Jim, honor the extraordinary life he shared with us, and celebrate the lasting impact he made on generations of theater artists.

- What time should I arrive?
Doors will open at 1:30 PM. The program begins at 2:00 PM and concludes with a reception in the lobbies of 120 and 124 Bank St.
- Is the theatre wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The entrance is at street level on Bank Street. The lobby and theatre are on the same level, with flexible floor seating locations for mobility devices.
- Are restrooms accessible?
The restrooms inside the HB Playwrights Theatre have narrow doorways that may not accommodate all mobility devices. For fully accessible restrooms, guests are welcome to use the facilities in the street-level lobby at 120 Bank Street, directly next door to the theatre.
- Will the event be recorded or live-streamed?
This is an in-person gathering only. The program will be professionally recorded, and a private, password-protected recording will be made available after the event for those unable to attend.
There will not be a public live stream. If seating in the HB Playwrights Theatre reaches capacity, additional guests will be welcomed into the Helen Gallagher Studio Theatre / First Floor Studio, where the program will be shown live from the HB Playwrights Theatre.
Guests are welcome to take personal photos before, during, and after the event. Please refrain from using flash during the program.
