    Event description

We are happy to present our twelfth Open Garden for Open Gardens SA after first opening in 2013. There have been lots of interesting things happening in the past couple of years including the development of two new sites at Elizabeth East and Bower (country) but these are not open for the Open Garden; however, the usual five gardens at Elizabeth Grove will be open again.

Highlights of the Open Garden weekend are a full program of speakers and demonstrations on each day, including presentations by the original garden founders Joe Kielnerowski, Rosanne Parker and Andrew Thompson. There will be our usual mega plant sale with lots of unusual and tropical fruiting plants for sale at very low prices (approximately half retail). Botanical Curiosities will also have a range of vegetable and herb seedlings with many medicinal and hard to find varieties. We have a few new speakers this year to provide variety and some new displays and stalls.

The gardens are relaxing and a cool oasis in hot weather and children are very welcome with some special activities for them. Experienced Rare Fruit Society guides will conduct tours and you can get all your questions on growing edibles, especially fruit, answered by our helpful experts. There is an open panel discussion for this on both days. This is a lot more than just wandering around someone’s garden! It’s a sustainability fair with all activities included in the admission. Open Gardens SA admission is $10 with $8 concession and children under 18 free. This is set by OGSA and 50% is returned to us: we are proud to say that we have donated approximately $25,000 to various charities over eleven years as we always donate 100% of our share of the gate to charity. Entry is by card or cash these days and you can also pre-book your ticket through Humanitix.

    Hope to see you there!
