Event description

On Friday May 13th UC Music is thrilled to welcome world-renowned composer John Psathas in a special edition of Composer's Workshop. John will speak about his compositional practice and other facets of establishing and sustaining a successful career as a composer. He is one of New Zealand's best known and most performed composers internationally, and during his career has received hundreds of commissions from some of the world's best musicians and ensembles. His music spans multiple genres and artistic disciplines: he has worked with high profile classical musicians and orchestras, jazz greats Joshua Redman and Michael Brecker, has collaborated with author Salman Rushdie, and composed the music for the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a composer, don't miss this opportunity to hear from one of the most active and successful composers working today.

John is having his new work premiered, a double percussion concerto, by both Orchestra Wellington and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra this year.

Thank you to the CSO for supporting this exciting opportunity for UC students.
