Event description

Title: Negotiating with the Human Rootkit, Lessons from Working with Human Behaviour as an Engineer

Date & Time : Tuesday 13th May  - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Venue : Stamford Plaza Melbourne

Summary: User behaviour sometimes confound us, as technical people, the same way a stubborn rootkit does. As even a well-resourced security program can be subverted by disengaged users, this talk shares some human behaviour science theories and practices that I found helpful in my research, teaching and engineering journeys. I will explore examples and practices from cyber-security, education and behavioural science fields that are used to spot demotivating factors (that are often fixable), set up users to learn a new skill (like security) and encourage users to stay engaged.

Speaker : Tracy Tam, Researcher at RMIT University.

Bio: Tracy is a doctoral candidate at RMIT University. She studied engineering at Monash University, before working for a decade as an engineer within the IT industry. Her research has been cited by over 100 scientific articles and had input into government policy. Her research interests include small business cyber-security, cyber-security human factors and security risk management.
