Event description

Jet Black Cat Music Presents:

Jordan Ireland at Mt Tamborine

Get your coats ready for a cosy winters night with JBCMs favourite Artist & Record of 2022 so far - Spirit Walking. The incredible location for the night will be revealed on the day of the event. We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Wangerriburra people where this event will take place. We pay our respects to Elders past, present & emerging.

Jordan Ireland is a multi-instrumentalist songwriter and composer residing on Dharawal land in the Illawarra. He leads the experimental chamber pop collective purple orchestra as well as the heart to heart bedroom project, stolen violin and is a former member of far north queensland folk collective The Middle East. He makes empathetic music across a diverse range of genres and mediums.

His latest record, Spirit Walking, is a collection of instrumental piano motifs.

“This record is pure magic! Like Mingus covering Bill Evans after a long afternoon hitting the hash-pipe garden side, full blue bird skies as the sun drops by.

Fluid, delicate… charming. The sense of poetry in the open skipping phrases. Like flickering candle light on the final pages.

Jordan finds freedom through the keys, calls the day from the heart. Understated, articulate… the real deal.”

“An album that whisks you out of the muggy present and into a dream-like lull, Spirit Walking collects a set of piano improvisations from Jordan Ireland (Blue Divers, Stolen Violin, The Purple Orchestra, ex-The Middle East). Two sides of only piano (no vocals, seemingly no overdubs, not even any room sound), these tracks wander through and explore meditative left hand drones, right-hand lyrical phrasing, and bursts of riffing.”
