Interested in media law? Or just wondering what happens when journalists face legal threats? Come to this panel for a vibrant discussion of journalism's interaction with the law. Hear from pre-eminent University of Sydney Media Law professor David Rolph and Student Representatives' Council (and Honi Soit's trusted) lawyer Jahan Kalantar, with moderation from Walkley-nominated technology journalist Veronica Lenard.

About David Rolph

Dr David Rolph is a Professor of Law at the University of Sydney Law School. He is the author of several books, including Rolph on Defamation (2nd ed., Thomson Reuters, Sydney, 2024) and Contempt (Federation Press, Sydney, 2023), as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles on media law and tort law. Professor Rolph was the academic member on the Defamation Expert Panel advising the New South Wales Attorney-General on reforms to the Model Defamation Provisions, a member of the advisory committee to the Australian Law Reform Commission’s reference into a statutory cause of action for serious invasion of privacy and a member of the advisory committee to the Victorian Law Reform Commission’s reference into contempt of court. He is an academic member of Level 22 Chambers, an assistant editor of the New South Wales Reports and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.
