Description
"Monday Night Confessions" is a weekly show presenting original jazz/improvised music. Run out of Church Street Studios in Camperdown, Sydney, we acknowledge the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
5th October 2026 - Julian Curwin // Novak Manojlovic
Julian Curwin
Julian Curwin - guitar
Lloyd Swanton - double bass
Miles Thomas - drums
Legendary proponents of bass and drums Lloyd Swanton (The Necks) and Miles Thomas (Lisathe) join guitarist/composer Julian Curwin to explore material from his many and varied projects over the past 20 or so years. Everything from surf rock to tropical lounge, spaghetti western and the occasional lullaby.
Novak Manojlovic
Novak Manojlovic - piano
Novak Manojlovic is a Sydney-based pianist/composer/arranger/improviser who has written and performed works which defy easy categorisation for a range of settings - from solo piano to orchestra - demonstrating an output spanning electro-acoustic, classical, improvised and contemporary musics.
He has developed a reputation as a restless maker with works under his own name as well as that of HEKKA, Grown Ocean, NoMansLand and Colourfields as well as collaborations with artists such as GODTET, Ngaiire, Erika De Casier, BELIEVE, Microfiche, Bonniesongs, Hinano Fujisaki and more. Novak acts as the current artistic director of the Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) and was recognised in his reception of the Freedman Fellowship (Jazz) in 2019.
In this rare performance Novak returns to the solo piano format where he will perform improvisations, compositions and generally plumb the depths of all that wood and wire to see what mysteries may be extracted.
