The Mujaay Ganma Foundation Presents: Julumbawambi - Along the Generations

An Engaging Theatrical Reading Celebrating Gumbaynggirr Stories

Saturday 30th November Bowraville Theatre, doors open at 6pm

Julumbawambi, meaning Along the Generations is a powerful series of theatrical readings that brings to life a collection of stories from Gumbaynggirr country. The event will feature original works, poems, readings, and an In Conversation—authored by Five First Peoples. Writers Aunty Ruth Walker, Aunty Sandra Buchanan with Virginia Jarrett, Patricia Walker, Lana Kelly and Thomas Stanbrook with Rhoda Roberts AO as Director.

Audiences are invited to embark on a journey through the unique experiences of our writers. Based in the Community of Bowraville, these are stories that reflect the narratives that have emerged over the decades.

Rhoda Roberts AO said ‘We wanted to show the layers most don’t witness. There has been a dark shadow over this community, but its home to many, Gumbaynggirr Elders and Custodians. Uncle Martin Ballangarry OAM, who has served the Nambucca Valley Community as a Councillor for 20 years, Greg Inglis (GI) first began his footy career with the Bowraville Tigers, the musical dynasty of Wire Mc and his sons Tasman Keith and Sammy J (aka Kapital J) and it’s a community of strong Matriarchs and language speakers .

A series of Actors will bring to life the dialogue, that blends heartfelt storytelling and sharp humour, illuminating life on the mission and a love that resonates across generations.  Each narrative offers insight into the truths and rich histories, that have shaped their identities, woven together by a shared connection to the ancient landscape of the Gumbaynggirr Country (Nambucca Valley).

Join us for an evening that celebrates Bowraville, storytelling, culture, and community. Custodian and Elder Aunty Ruth Walker said ‘We look forward to sharing our stories with you all.’
