About Nefesh Mountain:

The latest album from Nefesh Mountain, Beacons, emerged from a bold and wholehearted attempt to transform the world around them. Soon after wrapping up a whirlwind tour booked with the mission of spreading their newfound message of radical love, co-founders Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg immersed themselves in a feverish songwriting process that turned frustration and fear into irrepressible hope. Reaching far beyond their bluegrass roots, they forged a fiercely joyful sound unbound by genre. The result is a double album affirming Nefesh Mountain as a singular musical force—one whose deeply impassioned songwriting offers new ways of navigating an endlessly troubled world.

Self-produced and recorded primarily at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, Beacons expands the soulful intentionality that has defined Nefesh Mountain’s work since their founding a decade ago. “We live in such strange and divided times, and while we wanted this album to be a full-on celebration of American music, one of our main goals was to bring love, hope, and positivity into a world that sorely needs it,” says Lindberg. “In the end we made a choice: instead of getting mad, we just made music.”

Though shaped in part by the political landscape—polarization in the U.S., the Israel–Hamas and Russo-Ukrainian wars—Beacons also explores personal journeys, from the birth of their daughter Willow to Zasloff’s sobriety. “This is definitely the most personal album we’ve ever made,” says Zasloff. “It became obvious that if we’re going to really open our hearts, we need to talk about things we’ve never shared before, with the hope that it’ll end up helping others.”

The album’s two discs span a wide range of styles. Disc one blends Americana, blues, country, and psych-folk, featuring their longtime live band and guests like pedal-steel legend Greg Leisz. Disc two returns to acoustic bluegrass with roots icons Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush, and Stuart Duncan. “Finally we decided to throw out the rulebook and play whatever we felt like playing,” Lindberg says.

Songs like “This Is Me” and “Race to Run” celebrate self-acceptance and perseverance. “Another Way” and “Better Angels” mix vivid storytelling with emotional depth, while tracks like “Heaven Is Here,” “Regrets in the Rearview,” and “Mother” reflect personal insight and spiritual hope. The closing tracks, including the poignant “Little Longer” and the powerful “What Kind of World,” bring the album’s themes of legacy and love into sharp focus.

Beacons also includes “Man of Manzanita,” a tribute to Tony Rice, and showcases the clarity the band found during their late-2023 tour. “Every night it became clearer that we needed to keep being intentionally radical with our acceptance and love,” says Zasloff. “This album helped us find the strength to keep making that choice again and again.”
