Commercialising your research or innovation takes time and money. Join this Masterclass to learn where you can seek grants and other non-dilutive funding for your bio, med or health tech venture. Find out how to finance your innovation, and what the different options are without giving up equity.

This session will explore various options, featuring guest speakers who will delve deeper into topics such as the R&D Tax Incentive, Curator Grant, Venture Capital funding, and Breakthrough Victoria funding. They will discuss the focus of each opportunity, the required maturity level, the application process, and the impact on both companies and the broader ecosystem.

This masterclass is part of a series aimed to help researchers, innovators, clinicians and start-up founders understand what is required to successfully bring an innovation to market.

Ingmar Wahlqvist | 
Senior Investment Manager at Brandon Capital

Ingmar is a member of the investment team at Brandon Capital, manager of the Brandon BioCatalyst. He’s a medical doctor, and spent several years in clinical medicine before completing an MBA at Melbourne Business School. Thereafter he joined the Boston Consulting Group, serving clients in several industries, including financial services, airlines, manufacturing and the public sector, and subsequently worked with several health-related start-up companies.


Tim Hynes | State Manager Victoria & Tasmania at Radium Capital

With over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, Tim works to provide access to the their cash flow that will provide clients business with a return. Tim has a strong operational knowledge of his client’s requirements and strategy in an ever changing environment and with Radium Capital's unique R & D Funding Model provides a market leading product in a dynamic, fast paced environment.


Jerome Wielens | Director, Health and Life Sciences at Breakthrough Victoria

Jerome is an experienced investor, business development manager and analyst in the health and life science sector. He has spent over a decade on both the buy and sell side of investment opportunities across a broad range of therapeutics, medical devices and digital health. His current role at Breakthrough Victoria is Director of Health and Life Sciences where he supports the deal team providing sector expertise and works with portfolio companies to help them be the best that they can be.



Joseph DoddPriority Manager for Medical Science 

Joseph Dodd is the Priority Manager for Medical Science in the Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) Program. Joe has a background in the pharmaceutical industry with 25 years of experience working in a variety of roles in multinational companies, SMEs and Government organisations in Australia, the UK and Asia, including 7 years in research collaboration and commercialisation at CSIRO.



Rebecca Kannourakis | Entrepreneur in Residence at Tin Alley Ventures

Rebecca is from Tin Alley Venture’s and is their Entrepreneur in Residence, focusing her skills and passion on supporting the management of their health and life sciences companies. She has a lifelong passion to accelerate the commercialisation of science and technology step-changes and bring these advances to patients sooner. She was recently an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, working across the health and life sciences ecosystem (public and private) on strategic and operational transformations and business builds, including pioneering work in the virtual hospital field. She also brings international biotech experience, working at Amgen to shape their global COVID response, leading their Japan and Asia Pacific digital transformation, and building their first data & analytics capabilities across the region.
