Welcome to Australia's largest regular poetry slam! This month's feature is the incredible Aishah Ali! 

Aishah is a financial services lawyer, performance poet and writer of Fijian-Indian descent but BPS is her birthplace. Seven years on from performing at her first Slam, Aishah has gone to perform across Sydney’s most iconic venues from the QVB, Town Hall, Australian Museum, Sydney Jewish Museum and the ICC were she won the coveted BPS Grand Finals with her team Mouthful of Melanin. 

She has featured in slam hotspots Narellan Poetry Slam, Enough Said, Poetica, Word Travels, Word-in-Hand & the Melba Spiegeltent. In 2019, Aishah co-wrote and starred in the theatre production Dy(STOP)ia' for SWF. Aishah has worked closely with a number of NGO initiatives and schools across Sydney and is most passionate about connecting young people to their purpose and power through Art. 

She has been fortunate to have been published in a number of anthologies, journals and news media. In 2020, she was the recipient of the coveted Westwords Writing Fellowship and is currently working on her first poetry collection that captures the tensions of law against the body of a young brown women, the macro politics of familial relationships, girl-hood, grief and God.

🍉 If you are intending to sign up to perform at the slam, please book a ticket and sign up to perform at the door. We are no longer offering free artist tickets but if you you have special circumstances/are experiencing financial difficulty and need tickets, please email us!

🍉 We've changed our ticket provider to Humanitix! They give 100% of profits to education projects. If you have any feedback about the change from Eventbrite, let us know via DM or email.

🍉 Regular slam rules apply: No age restrictions/ 3 minute time limit/ no props or music/ poetry must be your original work.

🍉 The top 4 scoring artists will be granted a spot at the Grand Slam (pending COVID restrictions).

Poetry aficionados, appreciators of HipHop and literature that beats with a thunderous heart — you absolutely do not want to miss this!
