Law Way® Just Because It’s Online, Doesn’t Mean It’s Yours: ICIP and Indigenous Data in Open Online Spaces
Description
As Indigenous peoples’ cultures and knowledges are increasingly represented online through user-generated content and open platforms, new conversations are needed about what this means for Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and Indigenous Data Sovereignty. This Law Way® seminar will explore the challenges and opportunities that arise when ICIP and Indigenous Data are shared online.
Drawing on the development of the Wikimedia Australia CultureStrong Guide, Shevaun Wright, Senior Associate, and Matilda Langford, Solicitor, will explore how Wikimedia Australia and Terri Janke & Company approach these issues and have developed practical guidance for more respectful engagement with Indigenous peoples, cultures, knowledges and data in open online spaces.
This session is for GLAM professionals, universities, research institutions, and media and communications teams, as well as anyone creating, sharing or managing content about First Nations cultures and knowledges online.
If you can't make this date but still want to view the session, you can buy a ticket and let us know! We will give you access to the recording.
