Justin Yeo
Justin Yeo - tenor saxophone
Thomas Odell - piano
Sabine Tapia - double bass
Matt Simmonds - drums
Justin Yeo is a Sydney-based saxophonist, composer and the 2026 Jacob Neale Award Winner. His music is deeply informed by artists in the tradition of Black American Music including the likes of John Coltrane and Marquis Hill. His compositions seek to explore spirituality and humanity through melodies that subvert audience's expectations. For this performance, Justin is joined by three distinct voices from the Murmurations Trio — Thomas Odell on piano, Sabine Tapia on double bass and Matt Simmonds on drums.
Wilbur Whitta
Wilbur Whitta - piano
Wilbur Whitta returns to Australia after working as a member of the prestigious Focusyear band in Basel, Switzerland, to release his new solo album ‘Now Play Something Upbeat’ (Loumi Records). Recorded primarily in a historic church, this record documents a first: Wilbur working alone at both piano and organ, improvising each piece in the room.
Originally hailing from Ngunnawal/Canberra, Wilbur Whitta is an award-winning Australian pianist and composer known for music that doesn’t shy away from confronting serious environmental and social issues while simultaneously seeming humorous and care-free. Wilbur was a finalist in the Freedman Fellowship awards and the Australian National Jazz Awards, and, while living in London, won the Dankworth Jazz Composition Award (UK).
“Now Play Something Upbeat is bold in conception and generous in execution … It makes us think about what we are losing and what we can still protect … A GREAT record!” – PARIS-MOVE
