Description

In partnership with Oxford Gallery Toi o Waimakariri, Artist in Residency and supported by Creative Communities  we are excited to host  a very special talk by International recognised Moyra Elliott:

Moyra Elliott - Curating the Taiwan Ceramics Bienniale

Moyra will talk about her experience of entering and winning the competition to curate an international ceramic exhibition at Yingge Ceramics Museum in Taiwan, and share the ceramic works she curated for Korero: Ceramics in Conversation, with lively anecdotes of her interactions with the international ceramic makers from 27 countries. Moyra is Artist in Residence at Oxford Gallery for three weeks during October.

New Zealand potter, writer and curator, Moyra Elliott  has worked with ceramics for more than five decades. She began as a studio potter in the 1970s, selling domestic ware and then exhibiting her work in New Zealand and overseas, before moving into curating, teaching and writing about ceramics.

Moyra was Director of the Fletcher Challenge Ceramics Award during its years of international expansion and Curator at The Dowse Art Museum.

She is co-author of Cone Ten Down, the acclaimed history of New Zealand studio ceramics from 1940–1980. A recipient of a Fulbright award and a Creative New Zealand Fellowship; Moyra has lectured and spoken about ceramics abroad and is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
