Kaffee und Kuchen: Rev. William Suckow's Autobiography

Prof. Bill Roba will present a lecture on Rev. William Suckow's Autobiography and his daughter, Ruth Suckow, "Family Life in Ten Small Towns, and Two Cities." Roba retired from Scott Community College in 2015 and is currently writing a history of the Iowa-German Experience.

Inspired by her upbringing at the turn of the 20th century and considered “Iowa’s first feminist writer,” Ruth Suckow’s work was largely forgotten until researchers rediscovered her story in the 1980s.

The Ruth Suckow Memorial Association, with the support of Humanities Iowa, has developed a traveling exhibition celebrating the life and work of Iowa novelist and short story writer Ruth Suckow, who lived from 1892 to 1960.

You can visit the Ruth Suckow Traveling Exhibition at the German American Heritage Center and Museum on the 3rd floor through November 15th.
