Event description

Join us for an exclusive ‘Kahnversation’ event; a series of curated conversations with our CEO and Founder, Ronni Kahn AO and special guests.

On Thursday 26th October, Ronni will be joined by Professor Veena Sahajwalla and Fiona Harrison to discuss how they are Shaping Our Future Through Innovation.

Professor Veena Sahajwalla is an internationally recognised materials scientist, engineer, and inventor revolutionising recycling science. She is renowned for pioneering the high temperature transformation of waste in the production of a new generation of ‘green materials’ at the UNSW Sustainable Materials Research and Technology (SMaRT) Centre, where she is Founding Director.

Veena is the inventor of polymer injection technology, known as green steel, an eco-friendly process for using recycled tyres in steel production. In 2018, Veena launched the world's first e-waste MICROfactorieTM  and in 2019 she launched her plastics and Green Ceramics MICROfactoriesTM. - a centre that has developed ceramics used as kitchen benches, tabletops, floor tiles, furnishings and for other applications made from waste materials.

In 2021, Professor Veena featured in the ABC’s Australian Story and she was named the 2022 NSW Australian of the Year in recognition of her work.

Fiona Harrison is a proud Wiradyuri woman of the Belubula River, on the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. Fiona established her social enterprise, Chocolate on Purpose, ten years ago to help support community and as a way of healing from her complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

Chocolate on Purpose offers a fusion of the finest Belgian chocolate and the best of Australian native botanicals. Her business model aims to address the ethical issues of the industry by sourcing sustainably grown palm-oil free chocolate, contributing to the eradication of child forced labour and raising cacao farmers above the poverty line.

Fiona was the recipient of 2021 Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year at the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards, for her role in building an Indigenous led supply chain to empower ‘her mob’. Fiona wants her actions of social entrepreneurship to grow and create an even bigger impact.

We’d love you to join us for this special Kahnversation!
