Te Ahu Museum: Tintype Portrait Sessions
Description
Tintype Central is heading back to the Far North!
Following a memorable visit in 2023, I'm delighted to be returning to Te Ahu Museum in Kaitāia for two days of wet plate portrait sessions.
Set in the heart of Te Hiku o Te Ika, the Far North, Te Ahu celebrates the stories, taonga and heritage of the region, offering a fascinating glimpse into the people and places that have shaped this remarkable corner of Aotearoa.
I'll be bringing a little photographic history of my own to the museum, creating handmade wet plate portraits using a photographic process dating back to the 1850s.
Each portrait is individually made on glass or aluminium, producing a unique photographic object and an enduring keepsake. Sessions are limited to a maximum of two people per plate.
No digital cameras, no negatives, no retouching. Just you, the camera and a little bit of photographic history.
If you have a special kākahu, taonga or other item of personal or cultural significance, please feel welcome to bring it along and incorporate it into your portrait.
A chance to step back in time, experience photography in its original form and make a portrait to treasure.
