Kākahutia te Ao - A showcase of excellence in kākahu Māori
Event description
E ngā ringa rehe o ō tātou tūpuna, nau mai, piki mai, kake mai ki Kākahutia te ao!
Kākahutia te ao brings together a collection of kākahu tūpuna reflecting classic style, adaptation to new materials, innovation, sound construction and demonstrates a high level of artistry. This moving exhibition is an opportunity to see first hand the excellence, beauty and skill of our tūpuna in whatu kākahu Māori. If you love whatu, kākahu, and Maori textiles come and witness kākahu tūpuna, usually found behind glass or stored away in homes, move and flow!
With a number of kākahu tūpuna from across the motu on display, and tohunga raranga whatu Cori Marsters and Karl Leonard to guide you on this journey, it's one not to be missed! The collection will also feature a 100 year old kahu huruhuru usually housed at Te Whare Taonga o Rotorua, which showcases some of the finest whatu and seamlessly brings together both traditional and modern materials of its time - something truely breathtaking.
Don't miss the opportunity to be inspired by these taonga tuku iho!
