Kalon Captain Jazz Trio: Featuring Harry Tompsett & Lloyd Swanton
Event description
Kalon Captain is a distinctive voice within the Sydney music scene, known for his creative work as both a drummer and composer. Through his extensive exploration of Jazz, Hip-Hop and Improvised music, Kalon has carved out a space that blurs genre lines and embraces experimentation. In addition to leading his own quintet, Kalon has performed as a member of the “nu-jazz” outfit 'HAZTET' as well as forming a trio alongside Gary Daley (The Catholics, Bungarribee) and Lloyd Swanton (The Catholics, The Necks) which focuses primarily on free improvisation.
Most recently, Kalon has performed at the Kiama Jazz and Blues Fest as well as Milton Jazz Fest alongside Hungarian Jazz Flautist Dorka Foster (Hakumba) and in April 2025, Kalon, along with Yianni Adams (Kyoshi, Ella Haber) released a new record under the moniker 'FIELDS' through the independent Sydney label CG Discs.
For this special performance at RoseyRavelston Books, Kalon will be joined by Harry Tompsett (HAZTET, The Condiments) on tenor saxophone and acclaimed bassist Lloyd Swanton (The Catholics, The Necks) for an evening of free improvisation and re-imagined standards.
With a focus on deep listening and spontaneous interaction, this ensemble will explore the subtle space between contemporary jazz and free-form expression. Expect a performance alive with risk, nuance, and the joy of collective discovery.
