Kalyāna Meets: Ayya Santacitta
Description
For the third instalment of Kalyāna Meets, we are honoured to be hosting Ayya Santacitta, a remarkable bhikkhuni (female monastic) in the Thai Forest Tradition whose dharma is deeply engaged with the political, technological and climate crises of our time.
Ayya Santacitta came to practice from a background in cultural anthropology and avant-garde dance. After encountering the dharma in Thailand in 1988 and training as a nun for nearly two decades, she co-founded Aloka Vihara in California, where she now resides and teaches. She will offer reflections on living and practicing amidst crisis, and how we can resource ourselves to meet the needs of our time.
Event details
This half-day event will include dharma reflections, guided meditation and a question and response session. No prior meditation experience is required: the event is appropriate for both beginners as well as experienced meditators.
Cost
All of KDC’s events and retreats are freely given, meaning there is no fee to attend. If you do feel moved to make a contribution, Ayya Santacitta has kindly offered for all proceeds to go towards funding KDC’s 2027 six-week retreat. Information about that event, here.
