Join us for a FREE, all-ages day out exploring the environment, wildlife, recreation and heritage that make this place so special. Get hands-on with interactive displays, meet local experts and organisations, and enjoy family favourites like face painting and our colouring competition, plus discounted tours at Seahorse World and Platypus House.
The Kanamaluka / Tamar Discovery Day, organised by the Tamar Estuary and Esk Rivers (TEER) Program, is your chance to connect with this remarkable ecosystem and the community working to protect it.

TEER Program
An immersive, hands-on activity where kids can explore the depths of the estuary and discover the incredible creatures living below the surface, plus learn about the vital role the estuary plays in supporting wildlife, and how you can help protect it.
Birdlife Tasmania
Discover the bird species that call the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary home, with hands-on displays and info from Birdlife Australia.
AMC Search
See the Australian Maritime College's autonomous vehicles up close, including Autonomous Underwater Vehicles and Uncrewed Surface Vessels on display at the wharf. Weather permitting, kids can even try remotely operating a Wave Adaptive Modular Uncrewed Surface Vessel (WAM USV) from a mobile control centre.
MTWAC, IMAS & UTAS
Meet the MTWAC team and learn about their work caring for Country, with interactive displays of shells, sand and kelp. Teaming up with IMAS, the whole family can learn how to age a fish, try fish tagging, and get involved in the fish frames program.
Tamar NRM
Discover what's living beneath the surface of the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary's tributaries, dams and creeks. Join Tamar NRM to explore the fascinating world of waterbugs and what they can tell us about water health.
