Karkalla Sowing Seeds to Connect with Country

Karkalla: Sowing the Seeds to Connect with Country is a hands on Aboriginal led experience inviting people to slow down, observe and connect with Country.

Led by Jade Brook, proudly Kaurna and Narungga, and presented by Third Camp in partnership with Recreate and the Mount Pleasant Environment Centre, this two hour workshop shares how Aboriginal people have read and cared for Country for tens of thousands of years.

Through Kaurna storytelling, seasonal knowledge and hands on learning, participants will discover the Cultural Indicators held within Plants, Landscapes, Animals and the changing Seasons. Together, we'll explore Karkalla, a resilient native food that reminds us every plant has a story, and every story strengthens our connection to Country.

Participants will taste homemade Karkalla chutney, explore the Centre's bush food garden and take home their own Karkalla plant to begin their own bush food journey while supporting biodiversity at home.

This event is part-funded through a Nature Festival regional micro-grant, generously supported by RAA and the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board.
