About the model update

Dr Michael Iwama recently shared new thinking about how a river carries the traces of what has shaped it — not just the rocks that are visible now, but what came before.

I've been pondering that this could include influences that may stretch back generations. It’s a quietly significant addition to the model with particular resonance for OTs working with trauma, adversity, and intergenerational experience.

About your host

Bronwyn is an occupational therapist with over 30 years of experience and the founder of Nature OT. She has explored the Kawa Model across a range of contexts — most recently in nature connection work and in supporting individuals and teams with life and business planning and team alignment, which she presented at the Australian OT Conference in 2026.
