Kazami-Ryu Shibari Level 1 Weekend Intensive
Event description
“The first stepping stones of Kazami-Ryu Shibari”
3-Day Intensive Workshop — Townsville, QLD
Beginner-friendly | 15 hours of expert instruction | Level 1 Certificate
Ready to move beyond YouTube tutorials and develop real skills in rope?
Join us for a rare opportunity to learn Kazami-Ryu Shibari in person with a qualified instructor visiting from Brisbane. Over three days, you’ll dive deep into the foundations of Japanese rope bondage, including safety, technique, and structure — and graduate with a certificate of Level 1 completion (if you meet the testing requirements).
This is a hands-on workshop with 15 hours of guided tuition across the weekend, held in a private, air-conditioned dance studio in Townsville. A perfect setting for learning, connecting, and getting serious about rope.
What You’ll Learn:
Kazami-Ryu Munenawa (3-rope chest harness/TK) — how to tie it safely, comfortably, and with finesse.
Tensions — why they matter and how to get them right
Emergency and nerve safety procedures
Additional ties:
Kazami-ryu Maeniryōhōte Shibari (Arms bound in front, 2 versions)
Futomomo (Ankle bound to hip – non suspension)
Gyaku-Ebi (Hogtie, Floor Work)

Certificate Requirements:
To receive a Level 1 Certificate, you’ll need to complete a timed test:
Tie a 3-rope Munenawa in under 7 minutes 30 seconds.
(If you’ve tied a 2-rope TK before, you’ll likely be ready!)
Important Notes:
Tickets are for pairs (one rigger + one model).
Please arrange your own partner — models are not provided.
Only the tying partner will be tested and eligible for certification.
Bring at least four 8m ropes (see below for recommendations).
Models: close-fitting synthetic clothing is recommended (think gymwear). Avoid underwires and baggy clothes.
Rope Recommendations
Minimum four 8m lengths of rope. 6mm Jute rope can be ordered online via the Evil Girls HQ store. (Please be sure to allow time for delivery).
As a budget alternative, we recommend buying 6mm cotton sash cord (available from Bunnings), cut to 8m lengths and tying an overhand knot at each end.

Friday 3rd Oct: 7pm-10pm
Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th Oct: 10am-1pm, 1hour lunch, 2pm-5pm
About Your Instructor
Basanos is the deshi of Miss Evil Gen, teacher of the Kazami-Ryu style of rope, and not a very nice man. He has been referred to as an “evil genius” due to his love of edge play and inventive sadism. Basanos started learning shibari in 2010, but his journey truely began in 2015 when he first met Miss Gen. Dedicating himself to learning, practise, and play, he has evolved his own personal touch in the rope bondage that he does. He has taken instruction from such riggers such as Kanna, Kinoko, Kasumi, and of course, Kazami-Sensei. In 2018, he was awarded the rank of teacher in the school of Kazami-Ryu.
