Keeping poultry in your backyard. Half-day workshop Sat 23 Nov
Event description
Keeping poultry in your back yard.  Half-day workshop
Saturday 23rd November. 1.30pm- 5pm.Â
The Chook is the world's original recycler and pest controller.Â
In this half-day workshop, we will share with you the basics of poultry husbandry. We will look at its housing, breed characteristics, supplementary feeding, keeping hens out of the lettuces and foxes out of the hens, managing pests and diseases in free-range flocks, rearing your own replacements, as well as integrating chickens and geese in garden and orchard management.Â
The format will be a combination of a PowerPoint presentation, demonstrations and an actual visit to the chook house and run at The Food Forest where you get to hold a chicken (if you want to). You will also be able to inspect the special rodent-proof chook feeder, nesting boxes, dust bathing areas, and different watering systems.
You will also see our mobile ‘chicken tractor’, a chook shed on a trailer that can be rotated around the property, including the vegetable gardens.Â
Course notes will be provided.
Afternoon tea is provided.
