Keeping Wild Armadale: The Unique Bushlands of our City - BEWG Plenary 1
Event description
The City of Armadale (Armadale) lies in the biodiversity hotspot of the greater Perth. Biodiversity hotspots are essentially defined by the diversity and endemism of Perth’s indigenous or ‘first’ plants. Two Australian bioregions meet in Armadale (and the greater Perth)–the Swan Coastal Plain and the Jarrah Forest. This juxtaposition is significant in many ways to the plants, animals and people of Armadale. The plants and plant communities of Armadale will be briefly described in an international, national, state and local perspective. The threats to these first plants and plant communities will also be described at the same levels, as well as the measures to preserve these. Particular attention will be given to recent research on Armadale’s plant communities and the many and varied local conservation groups and their work.
