Price $35.75 – $55 NZD + BF Get tickets

Event description

Learn how to make low-cost diy beeswax wraps, made from natural and recyclable materials and adaptable to your kitchen needs. From school lunches to leftovers, bees-wax wraps are a completely reusable and naturally anti-bacterial alternative to plastic wrap. Good for the planet and your pocket! If you are a foodie with a chocka fridge, a parent with kids to feed, going plastic free, or just want to do your bit and take cling wrap off your shopping list, then this workshop is for you!

Join Raewyn Yee at Kelmarna Community Farm for this intro in making your own bees wax wraps. The workshop will give you the materials and know-how to start making them yourself at home alongside some creative decoration and material sourcing tips. Make and take home your own wraps on the day.

What to expect:

This informative session will introduce the reasons for switching over to bees-wax wraps, including reducing plastic waste, using the power of natural ingredients that makes these wraps anti-bacterial, as well as how to use and care for your wraps so they can be used over and over.

Then Raewyn will facilitate a DIY making session so you can get an idea of how it’s done, what tools are required, where to source materials including recycled fabrics, and how to experiment with ingredients for different results to suit your needs.

You will get to take home your own set of three wraps made on the day (valued at $29.50).

Tickets include:

  • Theoretical and practical instruction
  • Set of three wax wraps to take home
  • A handout with instructions and recipes

What to bring:

  • a pen and notepad to take notes, if you like

Raewyn has been a volunteer at Kelmarna since 2023, and you may have already bumped into her in the Farm Shop! She is passionate about recycling and repurposing everyday items, and enjoys shopping at second hand shops to find funky fabrics to wear or to upcycle. Naturally, Raewyn has taken to combining both, using recycled fabric to make bees-wax wraps, as a means to reduce plastic usage in her kitchen and avoid plastic waste where possible. She hopes that in sharing her know how with you will mean the same for you at home.

At Kelmarna, we strive to make education accessible for everyone. So, where possible, we offer a 35% discount on our workshops to valid Community Services Card holders. If you book one of these tickets, please email us a copy of your valid Community Services Card, and remember to bring it along to the workshop. Please note that this option does not include Super Gold Card holders.

We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon!
