Description

What is ARF & RHD?

It stands for Acute Rheumatic Fever & Rheumatic Heart Disease. It is caused by a Group A Streptococcus (Strep A) bacterial infection of the throat and skin, and without treatment, can result in permanent damage to the heart. ARF and RHD are preventable diseases disproportionately affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in regional and remote areas. Prevalence rates were highest in women and children.

As part of our annual Christmas drive, we are going to donate hygiene products to Maningrida, a remote Aboriginal Community that has one of the highest rates of people with ACF and RHD in the world.

How can you help?

The cost of thygine items at the local community store makes it challenging to afford. Your donation will be used to purchase hygiene products. 100% of donations will go directly toward purchasing essential hygiene products for the community. The shipping is sponsored by Sealink.

Once all items are collected, they will be shipped to Maningrida. Our contact in Maningrida will then distribute the products to people in the community.

Items that would be purchased for donation:

Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shaving gel, deodorant, comb, hair brush, shaving razor, lip balm, facecloth, bandages, hand sanitiser, tissues, nail clippers, hair ties, and feminine hygiene products (tampons and pads).

Cleaning products such as brooms, mops, mop buckets, gloves, floor cleaners, toilet brushes and cleaners, bathroom cleaning products, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, clothesline pegs, kitchen/tidy or garbage bags, and any other items you see fit that could encourage and promote healthy living and hygiene.

Self-stable food such as rice, pasta, canned food, etc.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

As a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status, donations over $2 made to Kentish are tax-deductible.

There will be a booking fee of 2.5% + $0.50 upon checkout. The booking fees charged by Humanitix can't be included in your tax deduction. Nonetheless, Humanitix is a not-for-profit who donates their profits to charity.

Once the payment is made, you will receive a tax-deductible donation receipt.

Why donating through us?

All of your donations over $2 can be tax-deductible as we have a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.

100% of the donations would be used to purchase items (no admin or transport fees).

As a GST-registered organisation, 100% of your donations will be used for the product cost, without GST.

As we are a not-for-profit organisation that is a Foodbank member, we have access to hygiene items at a better rate through Foodbank.

Thank you for your support!
