    Event description

    GOVERNANCE

What is Keeping you Awake at Night?

There is so much information available online these days and we are all very busy! Sometimes having a trusted friend to discuss a challenge or an issue with is the way to go.

This informal panel discussion will be led by Judy Whiteman who has been involved in the not-for-profit sector in several countries as a volunteer, board member and consultant for over 30 years. She is currently an Independent Director with the Bank of India (New Zealand) Ltd and a Trustee of the New Zealand Housing Foundation.  Her previous roles include Presbyterian Support Northern (Independent Trustee, Deputy Chair, Chair of Investment Committee) and Te Waipuna Puawai (Independent Director, Chair).

Judy is joined by two very skilled governors in Kevin Haunui and Tania Jones.  Kevin Haunui has 20 years governance and management learned experience in the community and not-for-profit sector which he has applied to his voluntary service. His service in both executive and governance roles reflects his strong sense of social justice and commitment to improving outcomes for marginalised groups. Kevin is a board member of the Gay & Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA) for the Asia Pacific region and the World Board. He is also on the board of the Downtown Community Ministry, a service organisation that works to reduce homelessness in the Wellington community.

A highly motivated, committed and results focused leader, Tania Jones has 20 years’ experience in NFP governance across a variety of organisations covering national, regional, and local interests. Tania has been involved with New Zealand’s regional Volunteer Centres at a Governance level, having previously been the Chair of Volunteer Marlborough, and the Chair of the Volunteer Centre Network Aotearoa Leadership Group. She is passionate and committed in supporting volunteering within New Zealand and is the current Chair of Volunteering New Zealand.

In this workshop we take some of your and other frequently asked questions (these can be issues and challenges you are currently dealing with) and put them to a panel of experienced governors. This is an opportunity to learn from the experience of others on a tricky governance issue or something that is bothering you.

Whilst we have lots of FAQs, we are keen to tailor the workshop to cover your issues. To help us with this we ask you, on registration, to let us know about one governance question you have that you would like an answer for.  We will do our best to cover these matters in the time available.

Presenter: Judy Whiteman with panellists, Tania Jones and Kevin Haunui

Date and Time: Tuesday 1 June @ 10.00–11.30 am
