Event description

Join us for a Community Planting Day with Kaleula Headland Landcare as part of the Kiama Coastal Community Plantings Project.

We have 300 native trees, shrubs, grasses, and ground covers ready to be planted—and we need your help! Whether you're a long-time Landcare supporter or just curious about getting involved, this is a fantastic way to learn, connect, and make a real impact. Families and children are welcome.

This is your chance to:

  • Meet a local Landcare group and see their work in action
  • Contribute to restoring and protecting the Kiama Coast Walk’s unique coastal environment
  • Learn how easy it is to make a difference in your own community

All plants come from local community nurseries, ensuring they are native and suited to the area.

What to bring & expect

  • Wear covered shoes, long sleeves, long pants, and a hat
  • Bring a water bottle and any favorite gardening digging tools (we’ll have extras!)
  • Meet at the picnic table in Kendalls Beach Reserve at 9am for a site briefing and sign-in
  • Help plant, stake, mulch, and water our new seedlings
  • Wrap up with a light morning tea—we’ll provide tea, coffee, and treats!

About Kaleula Headland Landcare

Landcare has been working in this area for over 15 years, with the current group forming in 2022. Their focus is on encouraging natural regeneration by managing invasive weeds along the edges of the Littoral Rainforest and planting where needed. Lantana covers over 60% of the site, providing crucial habitat for small birds. It is only removed in small quantities and we ensure new plantings include pioneer species that quickly provide a new habit for birds.

This event is part of our Kiama Coastal Community Planting project, supported by the BUPA Healthy Cities Landcare Grants program.
