The Kid Stakes (film) with Jan Preston
Description
Enormously popular on its release in 1927, this delightful silent comedy THE KID STAKES is a highly entertaining romp through kids gangs, goat races, break-ins, aeroplanes, backyard cricket and the like, presenting a fascinating snapshot of Australia at the time.
Shot on location in NSW and Queensland the plot is funny, touching and engaging, ending with a climactic race which leaves audiences gasping with excitement.
Award-winning pianist and composer Jan Preston will perform her musical score for the film, performing on the Cliff Wallis' grand piano.
“I fell in love with The Kid Stakes the first time I saw it and have never tired of performing to it,” said Preston.
“I see something different each time and Pop Ordell’s performance of Fatty Finn is utterly delightful. In order for the music to match the comedy of the film, I avoided dark or complicated harmonies, and used authentic pianistic styles of the time including ragtime and boogie.”
