雪梨兒童廣東話聽講唱讀遊樂坊

對象：6-10歲

名額20名，先到先得。

每位參加的小朋友必須由至少一位長輩全程陪同

「香港時空」自從去年成立以來，開始關注香港人的下一代在澳洲學習廣東話的機會。我們了解到，新州的主流學校並沒有提供廣東話課程。雖然很多社區語言學校有開設中文課程，但大多數只限於普通話。提供廣東話課程的學校非常少。在社區語言學校教授廣東話的老師也提到，不少香港家長會選擇讓孩子學普通話，而不是廣東話。

我們舉辦這次兒童廣東話遊樂坊，是想測試雪梨地區是否有對兒童廣東話課程的需求，也希望了解家長的需要。

Metaverse Hong Kong (MVHK) presents
Cantonese Fun Workshop for Kids in Sydney

For children aged 6–10
Limited to 20 spots — first come, first served.
Each child must be accompanied by at least one guardian for the full duration of the event.

Date: Sunday, April 27
Time: AEST 11:00am – 1:00pm
Venue: Meeting Room 1 & 2, Burwood Council & Library, 2 Conder Street, Burwood, NSW 2134

Activity Design and Facilitation:

• Former Chinese language teacher at a primary school in Hong Kong
• Sound healing therapist; self-initiated organiser of mothers’ groups and baby music events
• Former TV programme producer in Hong Kong

Consultation and Support:

• Former school principal in Hong Kong; creator of children’s picture books and poetry

Free admission, but tickets must be reserved in advance.

Workshop activities include:
🎵 Singing
📖 Listening to picture book stories
🧩 Practical Cantonese word games in everyday scenarios
📝 Reading poetry together
🧠 Concept-based Chinese character learning
👨‍👩‍👧 Parent sharing and discussion time

All staff hold valid NSW Working With Children Checks (WWCC).

Since its launch last year, Metaverse Hong Kong has taken an interest in understanding what opportunities are available for the next generation of Hongkongers to learn Cantonese in Australia. We've found that mainstream schools in NSW do not offer Cantonese as a subject. While many community language schools provide Chinese classes, they typically only teach Mandarin. Schools offering Cantonese are rare. Teachers currently teaching Cantonese in community schools have also told us that many Hong Kong parents choose Mandarin over Cantonese for their children.

This workshop aims to find out whether there is interest in Cantonese classes for children in the Sydney area, and to better understand the needs of parents.
