Kidsafe ACT Grandparents' and Carers' Safety Forum - Woden
Event description
What better way to spend an afternoon than to enjoy a sumptuous lunch at The Patio or Henry's, then come and learn how to keep your little loved ones safe!
An Australian child is killed every three days due to a preventable accident - around 150 per year. That's 150 beautiful souls who had their lives cut short; 150 families and countless other friends who will suffer the sadness of their loss forever.
Over 68,000 children are hospitalised due to avoidable accidents every year, enough to overfill the Tokyo Olympic Stadium. Some of these injuries result in lifelong ability impairment.
As communities and carers, we have the power to change this. The benefit will be more children living safe, happy and healthy lives.
Kidsafe ACT - proudly hosted and sponsored by the Canberra Southern Cross Club - presents an information session for grandparents and carers of children at its Woden Club. The interactive session will cover car seat safety, as well as home safety. There will be plenty of time to have your questions answered by our expert Kidsafe Officers.
Did you know that 90% of child car seats are incorrectly installed, even though a properly fitted seat gives a child a 70% better chance of surviving a crash without serious injury? Did you know that button batteries, found in many items such as birthday cards, can be deadly within minutes if ingested? Even curtain and blind cords can be deadly. There are many ways that you can better keep children in your care safe - and thus alive.
The event is free and open to all!
