KIN Homeschool for Teens
Event description
KIN Homeschool for Teens is a space where older children can experiment, create and explore with natural resources in a fun term time activity.
The sessions are led by passionate Nature Playworkers and feature opportunities to learn new skills, such as carpentry and knot tying, as well as playing nature connection games.
A major part of the program is developing self-risk assessment skills. To help build resilience, we allow safe and healthy risk taking. Our Playworkers support teenagers to identify hazards and develop body awareness.
It’s no secret that Educated by Nature is big on play – in fact, it’s one of our guiding values for learning within nature. Teenagers need play just as much as younger children. It is vital to their development and blossoming independence. KIN Homeschool for Teens is about making space to meet the play needs of teenagers. Resources will be available to extend their exploration and will be catered to the interests of the group. Mentors will work alongside children to provide support and extend participation.
Term Three is a crowd and staff favourite - fire! This term centers on learning to create, care for, and cook with fire. When founded on the three pillars of respect (respect for self, others, and the environment), teaching fire provides a fantastic catalyst for the development of perseverance, patience, teamwork, nature connection, responsibility, community and survival skills. We are always delighted to watch the confidence and maturity of the group grow across the term, as they develop into capable ‘fire keepers’, mentors and cooks.

Please note, children must have turned 12 to attend KIN Homeschool for Teens. KIN Homeschool for Teens is a drop and leave program. Contact us if you have any questions about your child's ability to participate.

Phone Policy:
If a phone is necessary for essential communication, such as travel coordination, it will be collected upon arrival and securely stored. This ensures that teens remain fully present throughout the program while maintaining safety protocols. If a participant is found with a phone, their parents may be contacted to discuss, as this aligns with our expectations for respecting all program responsibilities.
Additionally, to honour the sanctuary-like nature of KIN Village, our team will not take photos or videos during the program. This decision reflects our commitment to creating a space where teens can be fully present and free from concerns about being photographed. We believe this approach respects their autonomy and fosters a sense of freedom, allowing them to engage more deeply in the experience without the pressures often associated with social media or documentation. Instead, the focus remains on personal growth, meaningful connections, and memorable moments that don’t need to be captured to be valuable.
We understand that this approach may be unconventional, but it aligns with our values of fostering safety, consent, and deep connection in a natural setting. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain this unique space for teens to thrive.
