Event description

KIN VILLAGE - Autumn

KIN Village for Teens is a ‘drop and leave’ school holiday program for 12-15 year olds, that allows older children to freely explore their world and community with the support of Nature Educators and Mentors.

Each session runs from 9am to 4pm and costs $120 per child. We have an average staff to participant ratio of 1:8. All staff have a Working with Children Check, with at least two staff at each session being first aid trained and at least one with water rescue qualifications (where applicable).

These holidays, for KIN Village Autumn, we will be focusing on Bush Adventures and Wilderness Awareness Games. No two days at KIN Village are the same, but typically they range from building cosy cubbies and relaxing in hammocks to discovering the surrounding bush to learning new carpentry skills! This season, we will also be engaging in a variety of Wilderness Awareness Games designed to help us forge deep nature connection. To find out more about Wilderness Awareness Games and what they bring to KIN, click here for a blog post by Educated by Nature co-founder, Daniel Burton.

Our Nature Educators resource the space with objects and tools participants might need to live out their adventure. They provide mentoring that observes and listens, in order to guide suggestions, resources and skill building to help participants achieve their goals. The program is designed to follow the groups natural energy levels throughout the day so that everyone can work as a team without feeling forced or held back. Children feel they are truly heard and acknowledged and are therefore more open to be guided into nature connection by our mentors.

Please note that children must have turned 12 years of age to attend this program. Sessions also running for 6-12 year olds, details on our website.

At Educated by Nature, we believe KIN Village for Teens should be a space where young people can immerse themselves fully in nature, free from digital distractions. For this reason, we require that participants leave phones and smartwatches at home. This policy fosters a safer and more inclusive environment where teens can connect deeply with nature, develop meaningful relationships, and engage in play without concerns about privacy, social media pressures, or digital interruptions.

If a phone is necessary for essential communication, such as travel coordination, it will be collected upon arrival and securely stored. This ensures that teens remain fully present throughout the program while maintaining safety protocols. If a participant is found with a phone, their parents may be contacted to discuss, as this aligns with our expectations for respecting all program responsibilities.

Additionally, to honour the sanctuary-like nature of KIN Village, our team will not take photos or videos during the program. This decision reflects our commitment to creating a space where teens can be fully present and free from concerns about being photographed. We believe this approach respects their autonomy and fosters a sense of freedom, allowing them to engage more deeply in the experience without the pressures often associated with social media or documentation. Instead, the focus remains on personal growth, meaningful connections, and memorable moments that don’t need to be captured to be valuable.

We understand that this approach may be unconventional, but it aligns with our values of fostering safety, consent, and deep connection in a natural setting. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain this unique space for teens to thrive.
