Kingscliff Creek Clean Up & Paddle

Join us for a morning packed with great Citizen Science activities: a Creek Clean up and Litter Survey, Paddle along Cudgen Creek to get to the clean up sites, in Kingscliff. This event is a collaboration between Watersports Guru and Dolphin Research Australia | Ocean Education & Conservation - as part of the Byron-Tweed Hope Spot Ocean Champion Program.

We’ll start at the Watersports Guru kiosk and paddle on our kayaks up Cudgen Creek to two designated clean‑up locations. After completing the clean‑ups, we’ll return to the kiosk area to carry out the litter survey, where we’ll separate the debris and count the items in each category.

Marine debris is one of the biggest threats to our coastal marine ecosystems. Understanding what washes up on our beaches helps us take meaningful action to reduce waste at the source.

This event brings our community together to learn, collaborate and build shared solutions across the Byron–Tweed Hope Spot. By joining local groups and contributing your observations, you’ll help strengthen our collective response to marine debris and support long‑term behaviour change.

Cudgen Creek Clean Up & Paddle

Location: Cudgen Creek - Watersports Guru kiosk near the Cudgen Creek Bridge

Cost: Free

5 double kayaks will be provided free thanks to Watersports Guru at no cost for ticketed participants.

You are welcome to bring your own kayak too.

This event is part of a series of events in the Byron-Tweed Hope Spot Ocean Champion Program coordinated by Dolphin Research Australia | Ocean Education & Conservation with support from a 1% for the Planet grant from Patagonia Australia to help address key threats to our region through grass-roots action.

What to Bring

• Hat, sunscreen, enclosed shoes that can get wet, weather protective clothing that can get wet

• Water

• Snacks

• Gloves (we will supply, but if you have some of your own, please bring them along)

• kayak and paddles + safety gear (if you are bring your own kayak)

– Please Note: this event is not suitable for children under 7 years of age & all children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult

– Even though this is an outdoor event, each participant must register and hold a ticket to be able to attend

– Limited tickets available

– Participants must know how to swim

– Further event details including exact location and what to bring will be provided when you receive the confirmation email after registration

– A reminder email will be sent to you prior to the workshop.

– All attendees must have a ticket prior. Our events are set to a maximum number of participants for safety, space and optimum learning opportunities.
