Event description

Free Film Event: Beneath the Southern Waves – Stories of Tasmania's Ocean Communities.

Wednesday November 20th, Kingborough Community Hub, Kingston, 6pm.

Join us for an extraordinary evening of short films that highlight the unique connection that Tasmanians have with their oceans and the marine life that live here like whales, dolphins, tuna and precious kelp forests. The films weave together the stories of Tasmanians such as fishers, sailors, surfers, scientists, and commercial divers , whose lives are intertwined with the ocean.

Our feature film, Beneath the Southern Waves, captures the stories of Bridget de Lange, commercial dive business owner who has a passion for giving back to the ocean from which she makes her living, and Professor Neville Barrett whose fascination for Tasmania’s oceans is lifelong.  We also meet father and son fishers Rob and Tim Cunningham who speak of the changes they’ve witnessed in their lifetimes.

Speakers:

Ally King, Recreational fisher and ocean advocate

Will Mathers, 'Tassie Free Divers' Youtube channel
Professor Neville Barrett, IMAS

Bridge de Lange, Total Dive Solutions
