Kink in the Tale
Event description
LIVE STORYTELLING FOR GROWNUPS
Writers read their true (enough) sex stories live on stage in this sell-out event.
This month you'll hear from sex worker, author and sexologist Dr Hilary Caldwell (Slutdom: Reclaiming Shame-Free Sexuality); author and journalist Daniel Nour (How to Dodge Flying Sandals); performance artist and producer of Sydney's Talk and Tease Show, Scarlett Furi; Kink in the Tale favourite Albert Lakeside; and your sexually intrepid, ever irreverent host, Donné Restom.
If you're a fan of events like Story Club, Bravewords Live, Queerstories, or Erotic Fan Fiction, you'll love this; it's storytelling done kinky.
Coming? Remember, respect, consent, non-judgment and an open heart will make you a better lover - and the best kind of listener.
AUGUST LINEUP
DR HILARY CALDWELL
Dr Hilary Caldwell is a sex worker, author, academic, sexologist, and long-time advocate for gender justice. With a doctorate on women who buy sex and over two decades of professional experience, Hilary brings fierce intelligence, lived experience, and clarity to public conversations about pleasure, power, and consent. Her political memoir, Slutdom: Reclaiming Shame-Free Sexuality, challenges the enduring impact of slut shaming and argues for a world in which everyone can pursue pleasure without fear, stigma, or coercion.
DANIEL NOUR
Daniel Nour is an Egyptian-Australian journalist whose writing has appeared in the New York Times, SBS Voices, Meanjin Quarterly, and Eureka Street. He won the 2020 Premier's Young Journalist of the Year Award, and his debut memoir, How to Dodge Flying Sandals, was released by Simon & Schuster in May 2025.
SCARLETT FURI
Scarlett is an actor, performance artist, and one of Australia’s most successful burlesque producers. She debuted her poetry in World’s Apart: A Globe of Poetry with “Her Name.” Raised by bohemians in Sydney’s east, her first paid writing gig came at age 10—$200 from Woman’s Day for a fake story. She trained in aerial acrobatics as a teen, eventually tumbling into burlesque, inspired by her striptease icon godmother, Elizabeth Burton. When not onstage, Scarlett is cuddling her hairless cat and staying up too late.
ALBERT LAKESIDE
Kink in the Tale favourite, Albert Lakeside has spent many hours stumbling about on a stage. As a front man and violinist he's bellowed, growled and vomited into his motorcycle helmet too many times to count. When he sings he sounds like Tom Waits. He fits everywhere and nowhere and his moustache is the stuff of legends. He is a puppeteer, lifesaver, ex front line community service worker, and once you've met him, you'll never forget him.
YOUR HOST, DONNE RESTOM
Long time lover of eroticism, irreverence, and saying out loud the things that make you blush, Donné was the sex advice columnist for Ralf magazine's horny teens in her twenties, and the sex writer for the confused and exhausted mums of Kidspot in her thirties. She is the host of Words on the Waves' Late Night Lit and has told stories at Story Club, Bravewords Live and Stories that Stir. Her debut one woman show, Everyone in my Family is Dead or About to Be was nominated for Sydney Fringe '24 Best in Theatre Award and her voice can be heard from at least a block away on a rough night.
