Kinship Rising Youth Choir
Description
Kinship Rising
An 8-Week Community Singing Experience
A new year. New connections. A place for every voice.
What better way to begin a new year than by coming together to make something beautiful?
Kinship Rising invites folk ages 8-18 into eight weeks of community singing, shared discovery, and joyful connection. Rooted in the belief that singing belongs to everyone, this gathering is an opportunity to begin the year with intention, curiosity, and a renewed sense of belonging.
Through songs from a variety of cultures and traditions, playful vocal exploration, rounds, harmonies, and collective music-making, we’ll discover the possibilities that emerge when we bring our individual voices into a shared experience.
This is not a traditional choir. There are no auditions, no performances to prepare for, and no musical experience necessary including reading music notation. We gather not to perfect a performance, but to practice listening, learning, creating, and being together.
As we enter a new year, we’ll make space to honor where we’ve been, explore who we are, and imagine what we might grow together.
Whether you’ve been singing your whole life or are just beginning to discover your voice, you belong in the song.

Meet Meika | Kinship Rising Co-Director
I'm Meika! I'm a musician, songwriter, educator, and community songleader who has spent nearly 20 years making music with young people and discovering all the ways our voices help us understand ourselves and one another.
I believe music belongs to everyone. That singing is more than making beautiful sounds; it's a way of remembering who we are, honoring where we come from, and discovering what we can become together.
Kinship Rising is an invitation to be curious, courageous, playful, and wonderfully yourself. We will sing, listen, learn, laugh, and grow together. No auditions, no expectations of perfection. Just a place to bring your whole voice and discover what happens when it meets another.
Whether singing is already your favorite thing or you're just beginning to discover your voice, there's a place for you here. Bring your curiosity, your imagination, your laughter, and your whole self. Come make music, find community, and grow alongside us.
Come as you are. Every voice belongs.
I look forward to meeting and building community with you!
In gratitude, Meika
Meet Megan | Kinship Rising Co-Director
I'm Megan! I'm a community songleader, organizer, and founder and director of Kinship Community Choir, the big sister of Kinship Rising Youth Choir. I believe singing is our birthright and a direct pathway into connection, aliveness, belonging, self-awareness, and so much more. When we sing together we remember our shared humanity- an antidote to the tech-centric world our youth were born into.
I've spent a lot of time in nature connection mentoring spaces which is another deep passion of mine. Knowing and relating with the world around us helps us know ourselves and each other. And grief work! I facilitate community grief rituals for adults. Emotional intelligence is at the heart of all that I do.
I also lead community singing at the Old Town School of Folk Music and teach workshops at folk schools around the midwest. I cannot wait to sing with you!
No auditions. No performances. No experience necessary.
Bring your voice.
Find your people.
Make kinship.
