Kite-Making for Palestine

On Sunday 11 October, people around the world will take part in a Global Day for Gaza, to mark 3 years since the start of this phase of the genocide. Here in Port Macquarie, we’ll be gathering to fly kites together.

Why kites?

Kites have long been part of childhood and play in Gaza, but in recent weeks, even that simple pleasure has become dangerous. After several kites from Gaza drifted across the border, Israeli officials threatened force in response to further launches. As a result, community groups in Gaza have urged parents to stop their children flying kites for fear they could be harmed.

That makes flying kites together on 11 October feel especially poignant.

But first, we need to make them! 🪁

Join Friends of Palestine Port Macquarie for a relaxed morning of kite-making at Home at Roto House on Saturday 3 October, from 10am - 11:30am.

We’ll provide all the materials you need. Come on your own, bring a friend, or make one together as a family.

Kites are limited, so we’re asking for $10 to reserve your kite. Any surplus of funds after the event costs will be donated to Newy Watermelon Collective.

If you can’t make it on the day but still want to make a kite, we can arrange to drop it off so you can decorate it at home and bring it along on 11 October.

Then we’ll bring our finished kites together and fill the sky with colour, hope and solidarity with the Palestinian people. 🇵🇸🪁
