Wet Plate Portraits at Kiwi North

I’m bringing my mobile darkroom back to Kiwi North for two days of wet plate portrait sessions.

Set among the historic buildings and old-fashioned charm of Kiwi North’s Heritage Park, it’s a fitting place to experience a photographic process that dates back to the 1850s.

Each portrait is made by hand on a 5 × 4-inch aluminium plate, using my little mobile darkroom. No negatives, no retouching, no two plates quite alike - just a unique, tangible portrait made to be treasured for generations.

I’ll be there on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 January, with Sunday coinciding with Kiwi North’s popular Train Day. So why not make a day of it, explore the Heritage Park and take home a portrait of your own?
