KKT Online Event: The Strong Women for Healthy Country Network
Description
Join Karrkad Kanjdji Trust for a special online conversation with key members of the Strong Women for Healthy Country Network, an Indigenous women-led movement connecting women caring for Country across the Northern Territory. The Network began in 2019, when Rembarrnga, Dalabon and Mayili Elders invited women from 32 ranger groups to gather at Bawurrbarnda in Central Arnhem Land. From that first gathering grew a shared vision for women to stand together with a strong voice, strengthen leadership and support one another in caring for Country, culture and community.
The conversation comes shortly after the Network's 2026 Strong Women for Healthy Country Forum, which saw the Network return to Bawurrbarnda, where the movement first began. The three-day gathering brought women together on Country to reconnect, share knowledge and strengthen the next generation of women leaders, with a particular focus on social and emotional wellbeing, healing and leadership. Seven years after the first gathering, the Network has grown into an independent Aboriginal Corporation connecting women rangers, Traditional Owners and community leaders from across the Territory.
Featuring key women from the Network, the conversation will be hosted by Holly Norrie, Program Director, Australia at the Judith Neilson Foundation, a longstanding supporter of KKT and the Strong Women for Healthy Country Network. Together, they will reflect on the journey from that first gathering in 2019 to the Network today, share stories and reflections from the recent Bawurrbarnda Forum, discuss the opportunities and challenges facing First Nations women caring for Country, and explore what comes next as the Network continues to strengthen women’s leadership, connection, and collective voice across the Northern Territory.
