Understanding Knife Sale Laws & Best Practice

Free Information Session - Friday 24 January 10am AEDT

Do you sell knives, box-cutters, axes, machetes, sickles, scythes, swords, spears, spear guns or gel blasters?

Some businesses need to sell knives and other bladed items as functional tools we all rely on every day.

However, these can present risk so businesses need to understand the law as well as best practice in displaying and selling such tools.

Understand the risk and what you can do
  • In 2024, the National Retail Association partnered with Queensland Police to deliver a comprehensive education program to retailers impacted by the QLD knife sale laws which came into effect 1 September 2024.
  • Our team engaged thousands of retailers and suppliers and visited over 600 shopping centres and precincts across Queensland to provide advice and resources. We have unique knowledge in real-world challenges faced by retailers.
  • While the vast majority of businesses are compliant with current knife sale laws, many are going beyond the law to address criminal risk. We encourage other businesses to learn from these proactive solutions.
