Beginners Guide to Knitting/Crochet: 4-Week Workshop
Join a warm, welcoming space to learn knitting or crochet from scratch, perfect for newly arrived migrants and refugees aged 15–25. No experience needed. Bring your curiosity; we’ll bring the materials, patience and refreshments!
When:Fridays: 24 October, 31 October, 7 November, 14 November

Time:10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Step-by-Step Approach
Demo first: the instructor demonstrates each stitch slowly (close-up & mirrored), then repeats at normal speed.
Break it down: every move is split into three parts, hand placement, tool movement, and repetition.
Guided practice: after the demo you try it while the instructor circulate for one-on-one help.
Targeted troubleshooting: instructor shows how to fix 3–4 common mistakes (dropping a stitch, tight loops, uneven edges).
Written + visual aids: every participant receives a simple take-home sheet with step diagrams and a short, beginner pattern.
Homework & next steps: short, achievable practice tasks between sessions with encouragement and tips for where to get affordable supplies.
Culturally sensitive & trauma-informed: teaching style is patient, respectful, and welcoming.
IMPORTANT:
This program is ONLY open to individuals who meet the following criteria:
Aged 15–25 years
Migrant and/or refugee visa holders
Have been in Australia for less than 5 years
Living, working, or studying in the Canterbury Bankstown, Liverpool or Fairfield LGAs
Spaces are limited, so please ensure you meet the criteria before filling out the form.
